Combating missed appointments

A recent study into the NHS patient experience found that there was strong support for pre-booked outpatient appointments, along with pre-appointment reminders to reduce the number of missed appointments.

It has been found that patients most likely to miss appointments fell within the 16-to-35 age group. Clinics using SMS-based appointment reminder systems have cut non-attendance rates by 30%, even when take-up of the SMS service was as low as 20%.
